Are Quotex and IQ Option trustworthy? The honest analysis an affiliate won't give you.

First of all: binary options are not regulated by Brazil's securities regulator (CVM), and offering them to residents of Brazil is considered irregular. Most retail traders lose money. This page is educational and does not recommend trading them — it exists so you can decide with real information instead of advertising.

Search for "is Quotex trustworthy" or "is IQ Option worth it" and most of the results are pages that earn a commission if you sign up. Ours does not — and that is why it can tell you things the others leave out. Here is the unvarnished read on the two most searched platforms in Brazil.

01Quick verdict

Quotex

3,1/10
  • Offshore (St. Vincent / St. Kitts and Nevis), no serious regulation
  • No CVM authorization; on other countries' lists of unauthorized platforms
  • Recurring reports of delayed/blocked withdrawals
  • Simple platform and low minimum deposit

IQ Option

4,4/10
  • CySEC license (Cyprus), but no CVM authorization in Brazil
  • The CVM ordered it to stop taking on clients in 2020 — and the sign-ups continued
  • High volume of withdrawal complaints; leverage up to 1:1000 (dangerous)
  • Older, robust platform, demo account with no deposit

Neither of them is "trustworthy" in the sense that matters to a Brazilian: if something goes wrong, you have nobody to turn to. The difference between them is one of degree, not of kind.

02Head-to-head comparison

PlatformHeadquarters / registrationRegulationCVM authorizationComplaint no. 1
QuotexSt. Vincent / Nevis (offshore)None seriousNoWithdrawal delays
IQ OptionCyprusCySECNo · stop orderBlocked withdrawal
BinomoSt. Vincent (offshore)None seriousNoAccount closed
Pocket OptionMarshall Islands (offshore)None seriousNoVerification stuck

Notice the pattern: headquarters in a tax haven, no recognized regulation and no CVM authorization. That is not a coincidence — it is how the model is designed.

03What the CVM actually says

CVM Ruling 598/2018 expressly prohibits offering binary options contracts in Brazil, classifying them as closer to a bet than to a security. Throughout 2025, the CVM kept issuing stop orders against platforms that try to take on Brazilian clients, with a daily fine of R$ 1,000 for anyone who ignores them.

That does not mean you, as an individual, commit a crime by trading on an offshore platform — it means that offering and soliciting clients in Brazil is irregular, and that you are left without any local legal protection. The companies operate from tax havens, beyond the reach of the Brazilian courts.

04Quotex in detail

Quotex is run by offshore entities (Maxbit LLC, in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, linked to the ON Spot LLC group, in St. Kitts and Nevis) and is not regulated by any serious authority — not the FCA, not CySEC, not the CVM. India's central bank went as far as adding it to its list of unauthorized platforms. The most common complaint is blunt: money goes in easily, but getting it out is another story — reports of delays and of verification (KYC) demands appearing exactly at the first withdrawal.

What weighs against it

No serious regulation, a history of payment delays and aggressive advertising on social media. In a dispute, there is no authority to turn to.

05IQ Option in detail

IQ Option is older and holds a real CySEC license in Cyprus — which sounds reassuring, but does not apply to Brazil: it is not authorized by the CVM to offer derivatives there, whether Forex, CFDs or options. In April 2020 the CVM ordered it to stop taking on Brazilian clients, and the company still went on promoting its services in the country. There is also the high volume of complaints about withdrawals and leverage that reaches 1:1000 — a double-edged sword that accelerates both the gain and the ruin of a retail trader.

The detail nobody mentions: the account is not denominated in Brazilian reais. You pay 2% to 4% in currency conversion on every deposit and withdrawal — a silent cost that eats into your result before the trade even starts.

06Why the "bot" and the "infallible signal" do not exist

The math of binary options is unfavorable by construction. With a typical 85% payout and a 100% loss when you are wrong, you need to be right on about 54% of trades just to break even — before any costs. Estimates put around 80% of short-term traders at a loss. No bot or signal package changes that structure; anyone promising "infallible" is selling their own bot, not your profit.

07How to declare it on your income tax

If you traded and made a gain, it has to be declared. The most common reading in Brazil is to treat the results as capital gains in foreign currency, taxed at 15% and paid through Brazil's tax payment form (DARF). The rules on sending funds abroad and bringing them back (Brazil's central bank and tax authority) also apply. Not declaring exposes you to trouble with the tax authority — and the platform being offshore does not let you off the hook.

Important: this is general guidance, not tax advice. An accountant can assess your specific case.

08Frequently asked questions

Is trading binary options a crime in Brazil?

For the individual, trading on an offshore platform is not in itself defined as a crime. What is irregular is the offering and soliciting of these platforms to residents of Brazil, which the CVM prohibits. In practice, you are left with no local legal protection.

Can I sue if I cannot withdraw?

It is very hard. The companies are based in tax havens, outside Brazilian jurisdiction. There is no local regulator to turn to, and recovering the money rarely happens.

Is there any binary options broker regulated by the CVM?

No. Not one. Any platform offering binary options to Brazilians is in an irregular position as far as the CVM is concerned.

What is the regulated alternative?

The options market on Brazil's B3 exchange (stock options) and futures contracts (the WIN mini index and the WDO mini dollar) are regulated, have authorized brokers and allow real risk management. It is a different kind of product — and one with legal backing.
